Question from a coach – Should I combine public speaking with my coaching practice?

Question – Jennifer, I know you’ve been a keynote speaker for years. Should I consider adding public speaking to my coaching practice?

Jennifer – I was a speaker even before I was a coach, so this is a no brainer for me. If you have any inclination to speak and get in front of groups, it can be one of the best complements to your coaching practice because as a coach you want to get in front of as many people in your target audience as possible. Speaking gives you visibility, credibility and likability like nothing else. Not to mention, if you charge a fee for your speaking you can make great money to boot!

Then, if done correctly, you can then use speaking opportunities to bring clients into your coaching practice. Because now they like you, know you and trust you, so it should be an easy conversion from there.

But besides being a great profit center and marketing tool, as a coach we're doing a lot of listening and not a lot of talking. However, as a speaker you get to do much more of the talking and teaching. In my experience, I really like the balance. So yes, I absolutely recommend giving public speaking a try if it's in your wheelhouse.
